The Bridesmaid Dress Diaries

with a stunning shade of blue, but ultimately loved the sweet sophistication of champagne dresses. My mother initially protested, fearful that it would in someway “detract” from a bride in white/ivory, but swaying her to my side was a rather simple process. After all, it’s pretty hard to deny how chic and classy champagne satin is without even trying. Being a July wedding in Upstate NY, the weather is bound to be insanely hot and with NY summers comes a relentless humidity that is outright miserable at times. Needless to say, I never even considered a full length dress and knew immediately that my fabulous ladies would be fashioned in a knee-length frock of some kind. And with those thoughts in mind, we went shopping.

This dress was an early contender and I’m fairly certain it’s by Forever Yours. The navy and light blue colors here, as modeled by lovely Bridesmaid S, were among the shades of blue I was considering instead of the champagne and I really loved them together. Somewhere on a scrap of paper that was lost months ago, we smuggled the style number down and filed it away as a strong possibility.

Wholesale Women’s Clothing: How To Be Stylish and Charm

There is a saying: “You Are What You Wear”. To a great extend, this is very true. Your dressing style will tell pretty much of what a person you are. Besides, when you dress well, it makes you look confidence and attractive. In this article, you will learn about various women’s clothing styles that will help you stay in top form always.

1. Sexy and Elegant Style

There are many different definitions of the word “sexy”. As long as women’s clothing is concerned, you don’t have to be in tight tube tops or miniskirts in order to look sexy. You can exhibit a sense of sexiness and at the same time look elegant with ordinary womens clothing. Try out a full-skirt dress with sassy classic appearance. Loosen it a bit so that it is not too gripping. If you are tall and skinny, add on a pleated belt. The feeling can be very nostalgic!

2. The Never-Go-Wrong-Style

It is a well known fact: black clothes make you look slimmer. The safest way to go whenever you are uncertain is to wear black. This is the “color” that will never go out of fashion in the universe of women’s clothing.

3. Wild Summer style

It is very common to dress casually in Summer, with just a pair of jeans and a plain T-shirt. But, don’t let simplicity ruins your style. Try to spice up with some exotic colors and patterns. Put on some rich-colored skirts with pleated fabric trimming. Add some life to your plain Khakis with fanciful batik tops. Use your imagination. The possibilities are endless.

4. One-And-Only Style

In the fashion world of women’s clothing, it is never easy to make yourself stands out. But, sometimes, with a bit of creativity you can style yourself out of the world with just simple and ordinary materials. The best way is to add on to certain popular clothing with some floral or metal studs (ornamental button). Such decorative embellishment helps to separate you from the ordinary crowd.

5. Bold & Powerful Style

If you are daring and confident, have a go with red clothing. This is the most classical color in women’s clothing that will never fail to attract. It symbolizes power, confidence and glamour. Another great benefit of red clothing is that it plays deception to the eyes by flattering your figure. This is because red has a darker tone embodiment.

Fashion - A Way to Express

Fashion refers to the dressing style which gets popular in a culture at a particular time. Fashion trends do not last so long. Generally it changes within a gap of one to two year. So after sometime one fashion trend is replaced by another. The people who expresses them in a better way by their dressing style are known as fashionable and those who do not have a good understanding of dressing style are referred as unfashionable. Fashion represents beauty, style and glamor if taken in a

positive sense. But if we take it in a negative manner then it represents materialism. The cities where the designers shows their cloth collections are known as global centers for fashion. Paris, Milan, London and New York are the biggest center for fashion. Other cities include Dubai, Moscow, New Delhi, Moscow, Tokyo, Miami , Sao Paulo etc. Fashion changes very rapidly and the rate of change is very high than other men activities such as thinking and language which takes a very long duration to change. The biggest disadvantage of fashion is that people waste their money to buy latest new products to look unique. But to some other people it is a gift to try new things to look different from others. But in last few years people are adopting nudity in terms of fashion. The clothes size are decreasing day by day. For example the ankle height Skirts are almost replaced by mini skirts or minis.

Fashion Jounalism plays an important role in fashion industry. People are inspired by the clothes they watch in magazines, newspapers and television. But the most impotant means of fahion today are moviesor film industry. People are influenced at most buy the celebs wearing style. The revolution in fashion industry came after second world war. At that time fashion magazines were the biggest source,of fashion. Among the major magazines publish these days Vogue is the most popular magazine which was first published in America in 1902. The popularity of these magazines were due to less cost. During 1950 - 1960 television became the biggest source of fashion. In 1980 - Fashion television came into existence which had completely changes the defenition of fashion. Now people can watch the latest fashion trends available in the market. But sometime there is a contradiction between television, magazines and blogs about the fashion they spread in public. So before making a fashion trend public it requires a lot of research work to avoid this contradiction.

Bridesmaids: Mismatched & Marvelous!

Notice that although the styles and colors (even patterns) are different, the hemlines are basically the same, giving it a cohesive look. I think that if you had long and short gowns, it might be a bit too much.

In this photo, also from Manolo, you’ve got brides wearing pretty much the same style dresses, but in mix-n-match shades of blue. I think it’s a beautiful look and also gives your bridesmaids some degree of freedom in picking a gown.

The problem that some brides have with identical dresses in the same color is that it’s boring, predictable, and stiff. If you want something different but aren’t willing to give up the matching dresses, wearing patterned bridesmaids’ dresses is a fun way to go. You can choose from plaid, polka dot, floral, stripes, and more, like these pretty bridesmaids’ dresses from Dessy:

Here’s a bridal party looking quite chic and retro in stunning black and white dresses from Tory Burch. (Thanks KenzieKate for the image.)

Dress up your Apple Shaped Body in Style

A bulging belly, marked with thick waistline and an average sized bust are the typical features of an apple shaped body. Although this rounded shape, is seen as quite friendly by most people, it’s only the woman, who has such a body, knows how difficult it is to dress up this structure in style. Anyway here is some help on how an apple-shaped woman should dress up, to look fantastic.

The basics

For most apple-shaped women, dressing up means trying to hide their bodies. However, that’s not what is needed; in fact they need to learn to emphasize the right body parts and to take away attention from the problem areas. The bust line is what needs to be highlighted and the midsection of the body is what needs to be camouflaged, to enjoy balanced and leaner silhouettes.

Tops with V necks and those which puff up around the breasts will help in drawing more attention to the bust line. On the other hand to enjoy a somewhat slimming effect around your waist and hips, you need skirts and trousers with flat fronts and the fastenings should preferably be on the sides.

Casual dressing

For a pleasing casual look you must focus on accentuating the top half of your body, and that begins by wearing the right bra to highlight your breasts and create a more dramatic cleavage. Look for tops with low cut necklines which go smooth on your bust region and then flare out a little to conceal the hanging flab. As for bottom wear, you should look for tailor made jeans and trousers as against the regular branded ones, to add more definition to your legs. And finally to complete the looks add a pair of wedges.

Smart dressing

Long coats are a great way, to look slim and smart, for all the apple-shaped women, but do ensure that whatever you wear underneath is properly tailored and doesn’t add width to your outlines. And you don’t need to stick to wearing dark shades, as is the common tendency with most apple-shaped women; rather you must experiment with lighter colors as they look equally good on you.

How To Choose your Favorite Hollywood Style Evening Dresses

With a great number of people admiring hollywood stars, their dressing style has onset the trend of stunning Hollywood style evening dresses being desired by everyone. Evening dresses come in a multitude of designs, styles and shades that can drive every evening dress zealot crazy. These zealot admirers of Hollywood stars, cut out the pictures of their favorite stars to get an evening dress similar to theirs but at reasonable rates.

However there are others who prefer to design their own evening dresses. With an idea and design in mind these creative experts draw a sketch of their evening dresses taking some cue from Hollywood style dresses. Here are a few ideas to design your own Hollywood style evening dresses:

1. Watch Hollywood Entertainment channels

You can view numerous Hollywood style dresses on Hollywood lifestyle channels or entertainment news. This will give you a fair idea about what kind of evening dresses are in fashion. You can even go through the best and worst dressed on the lifestyle channels so that you know what to choose and what to stay away from.

 2. Go through Fashion Magazines

Going through fashion magazines is a wonderful idea as you will find all the latest style evening dresses worn by Hollywood stars out here. Fashion magazines is a better option than watching lifestyle channels as you can easily cut out the dresses you prefer and show them to your dress designers so that they get an idea of your choice. You can also tell them the alterations you want in your evening dress by emphasizing certain areas or de-emphasizing them.

3. Blend two styles

Another great option would be to blend the dressing style of two Hollywood actress and create a unique evening dress for yourself.

4. Elegance without Frills

Usually evening dresses uses frills, laces, feathers, sequins, crystals, diamonds, trains, corsets and double sided tapes as embellishments. However this does not in the least mean that you will look stunning with all these addtions used in your evening dress. Get your dress made in a style that does not loose its elegance and style even after removing the frills, laces, feathers, sequins, crystals, diamonds, trains or the corsets - as well as the need for double sided tapes. Remember that trains and frills are used in wedding dresses and Laces and corsets are more suitable for bridesmaid dress.

 5. The color and the cut

Probably the colour and style that looks stunning on your favorite Hollywood star may not suit your personal style. The evening dress loved by you may not bring about the same effect on you as you saw on your Hollywood icon. Thus make sure you dont create an exact replica of the dress you fell for after seeing your favorite star wear it. Get inspiration from that Hollywood evening dress, but alter it to make it truly your style. Ensure that the colour and cut of the evening wear suits your body type to give you a perfect look.

Investment dressing

At around the same time the US House of Representatives voted to reject a $US700 billion bailout of Wall Street, on Monday, British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood was in Paris advising frock watchers to ride out the economic downturn by making their own clothes or dragging out ol' favourites.

''Do it yourself,'' she said in a statement handed out at Paris Fashion Week. ''Make necklaces out of safety pins and shawls from blankets, tablecloths, curtains, towels or a metre of fabric.'' It was the kind of advice that would have had fellow fashion designers shaking their heads in disbelief as they struggle to find new ways to sell expensive clothes in an increasingly gloomy economy.

Westwood's collection, which was remarkably restrained for a woman who has made a living out of selling the outrageous - she pioneered the punk movement, after all - featured models wrapped and draped, toga-style, in metres of cotton, silk and taffeta, straight from the roll. It looked more like a showcase of DIY fabrics than high-fashion.

While some of the world's luxury fashion houses may not have liked Westwood's message, she is not alone. Dozens of designers have resigned themselves to the fact that, as the economy continues to sour, even luxury consumers are likely to opt for "investment pieces" - that is, well-made, timeless classics - or as The Wall Street Journal's Christina Binkley puts it: "Clothing that will survive trends and frequent dry-cleaning."

Belted skirt suits, tailored trousers, blazers, pant suits, blouses and classic sheath dresses are among the key "investment pieces" to emerge from the latest round of spring/summer catwalk shows.

In Paris, the most classic collections turned up at Balmain - fitted sheath dresses, pencil skirts and square-shouldered tuxedo jackets and blazers; at Rajesh Pratap Singh - all long-sleeve sheaths, sleeveless shifts, and blouses tucked into tailored pants; and at Yohji Yamamoto - who channelled the bleak economic mood with black skirt suits, and classic white shirts, buttoned under black vests, and tucked into black trousers.

Trend Alert: Shirt-Dressing

The shirt-dressing style is damn sexy with an edge! This style reminds me of ‘boyfriend’s dress shirt’ haha. It’s like you stayed over the night before and grabbed something to wear in the morning! Effortlessly chic, looks HOT either belted at the waist or at the hip.

Last October when the H&M for Stella McCartney collection dropped, I bought 2 ‘boyfriend shirts’ (white & pale pink) and they still have a tag on them, haven’t gotten a chance to wear them yet oops. So glad it’s a big hit this season! When I wear it “one day” I’ll be sure to post pics of my outfit haha.

More of my favorites after the jump…

Malaika Arora's dare to bare dressing style

Malaika Arora Khan is known for her dare-to-bare dressing style, but the gal likes keeping her secrets. Take her tattoos, for instance.

My idea of a tattoo is that not many should be able to see it. I have always wanted a tattoo and the one you see now has "angel" written on it. I also have another one with my son's name on it but I am not telling you where I have got it. And I will keep adding to my tattoo tally as and when I have another kid. It is quite an addiction. I got it done with my sister Amrita and we were amongst the first in the industry to have it.

Vintage Dressing Style Back In Fashion

Even after years of passing out from college the memories of prom night stays with every college student. Students cherish the memories of the special occasion gone by forever. The pictures taken during the prom night remind them of some of the most beautiful moments spent together with their friends dancing and having fun.

A prom is basically a formal dance event that takes place at the end of an academic year. Its a glamorous night with girls wearing beautiful prom dresses and appearing stunning. Thus the prom dress is the foremost thing to consider by the girls making preparations for the prom night. Prom dresses are not only used to dress up for the prom night, it can be worn on other special occasions as well like weddings and quinceanera parties.

Every girl desires to garner the attention of spectators at the prom night. She dresses up in a gorgeous prom gown that reflects her personal style, class and sophistication.

With immense importance given to glamour in prom parties, designers are creating extremely fabulous prom dresses for girls who want to leave a long lasting impression on spectators. However if you really wish to be the center of attraction at the prom night then pick vintage prom dresses as they make you appear stunning.

The soft and romantic prom dresses of the 1950’s with cap sleeves, satin waistbands, lace, bodices and frilly frocks with lantern sleeves were truly elegant and ladylike. The dresses were usually full length adding a touch of feminity, innocence and romance to the wearer. Later styles like gaucho pants, bolero jackets, and other fads like the harem look with the ballooning skirt, all inspired by Hollywood appeared.

However it is the vintage prom dresses that have garnered the attention of all and are fast gaining popularity. Long chiffon dresses with full collars and full-length sheer train; stunning strapless dresses with winged upper bodice and a full skirt are back in fashion. Semi-sheer chiffon gowns with embroidered organdy and Empire waist prominent during the 1960’s have once again become famous among the younger generation. Preference is also being given to vintage jackets, coats, shoes, shawls and jewelry.

Vintage dressing based on the 1960’s dressing style has become popular once again with girls choosing to wear vintage dresses for their prom night. With the prom dress designers getting more and more creative girls are dressing up in gorgeous vintage dresses stealing the limelight on the the most glamorous night.

Vintage dresses are available at various online stores at affordable prices. They also provide information about vintage dresses. These sites also provide original antique dresses for an even more authentic look. You can get your vintage dresses custom designed as well. Alteration services are also offered for a perfect fitting .

Trend Report: T-shirt Dressing

We fully support the desire to spend hours in front of the mirror, trying on clothes, and figuring out the right combination of layers and pieces for an excellent outfit. Of course, there is also something wholly gratifying about the other end of the spectrum, otherwise known as throwing something on and heading out the door. Just to clarify, we're not endorsing lazy dressing (so don’t run off to the land of flip-flops and velour tracksuits), but we are enthusiastic about the effortlessly cool trend of t-shirt dressing.

Around the Who What Wear office, t-shirt dressing refers to the process by which one styles, accessorizes, and wears a plain t-shirt or t-shirt dress to a variety of events. Sorting out the base of this look is a piece of cake (find t-shirt dress, put on t-shirt dress, and voila!), but you must take full advantage of the simple foundation by adding purposefully chosen accessories that show off your personal taste. As there are several ways to style your t-shirt, obviously, we pulled a few images of the celebrities who best illustrate the look.

Former OC gal pals, Rachel Bilson and Mischa Barton, both sported t-shirt dresses last month while out and about in NYC. Bilson complemented her Riller & Fount's Jenny Kimono Mini ($165) with American Eagle's Thin Rivet Belt ($20), Sam Edelman's Gilda Sandals ($85), and Jimmy Choo's Fringe Hobo ($1495). We adore Rachel's ensemble, but also enjoy Barton's manner of approaching the style. She accompanied her dress with a belt cinched at the natural waist and some knee-high fringed boots. If you don't have a t-shirt dress, you can pair an off-the-shoulder tee with a plain skirt as Kate Hudson recently did in Miami. Make the look your own by browsing our closet for a cute vest and patent heels to punch up your outfit.

Perhaps our favorite example in today's trend report is the get-up Zoe Kravitz modeled during a recent event at Milk Gallery in NYC. Kravitz further cemented her place as a style prodigy by elevating a worn-in oversized t-shirt with a pair of thigh-high boots (key for fall!) and vintage accessories. Whichever outfit you favor, we hope this variety of ladies gave you creative ideas for tackling t-shirt dressing. In the event that you don't already have a t-shirt or t-shirt dress on hand, we have narrowed down our favorites so you can get a jump-start on the movement! —Jessica Amento

Bop Basics Scoop Tee Dress ($180)
This dress drapes beautifully and reminds us of the one Mischa Barton recently wore in New York. Dress it up for night with some decorative tights and a sharp pair of stilettos.

Humanoid Long Long Shirtdress ($175)
You'll be tempted to slip into this dress every day thanks to its soft sheer fabric and a Grecian-inspired look. The shirtdress also comes with an optional belt/scarf.

Silence & Noise Scoopneck Tee Dress ($48)
The cuffed sleeves and cute front pocket makes this t-shirt dress stands apart from the rest. You could easily wear it during the day on the weekend, but the plunging back makes it a perfect date dress.

LNA Pocket Racer Back Tank ($58)
In addition to an off-the-shoulder shirt, you can also achieve a Kate Hudson-inspired look by dressing up a semi-sheer tank. We prefer the comfort of LNA's super soft jersey and appreciate the rainbow of colors offered.

Old Navy Metallic Tank Dress ($20)
Take advantage of the remaining summer days in this budget-friendly tank top dress.

Kain T-Shirt/T-Shirt Dresses ($77-$105)
As we mentioned on Monday, we love all of Kain's designs and think many of the brand's pieces are perfect for this trend.

Neal Sperling T-Shirt Dress ($310)
You can carry this trend into the fall months by investing in this long-sleeved version.

Girls in ties: How to man up

Girls in ties. The androgynous look has always intrigued the Rage because it's cool, unexpected and feels a bit like a 1980s Van Halen video meets Marlene Dietrich's dressing room. Yesterday was "Tie Tuesday" at our Image section and as you can see, I went with the straight on, cross-dressing style by pairing a silk, striped tie with a white Brooks Brothers oxford and many seasons old Piazza Sempione capri pants. My colleague, Ronit Nabi on the left of me, opted for a more Patti Smith -- as dressed by Karl Lagerfeld -- vibe with a skinny black tie, black blazer and strands of gold, pearl and ribbon necklaces. Emili Vesilind -- to the right of me -- went Katharine Hepburn-channels-Charlie Chaplin in a flounder-width tie knotted inches below her collar, cardigan and wide-leg jeans. It was fun to make a pact on Monday to man up and see how each of usinterpreted the look. (FYI: getting your colleagues to try a trend collectively is highly recommended.)

Over at Ralph Lauren's Rugby.com site -- it reminds me of a CW version of "Dead Poet's Society" -- there's a great video tutorial on how to knot a tie and finagle a bow tie.
Next week? "Mohawk Monday" at Image. Who's in?
